Women in the 21st Century
In the global world, women are not just mere participants; rather, they are taking an active part in decision-making and are demanding a seat at the table. This shows that the women's freedom movement has come a long way. But it also shows that there is still a long way to go.
As women continue to pioneer in every aspect of society, there is also a rise in crime against women. The rise of state-sponsored acts of violence is our main cause of concern. Whether it is the ban on female education in the Taliban or the state-sponsored slavery of Yazidi women under ISIS in Syria and Iraq, even today, women are being treated as a commodity.
Whenever there is a war, civil war or riots, women are disproportionately impacted in the form of human trafficking, sexual assaults, etc.
The rise of popular right-wing nationalists has led to the decline of Liberal ideas and has impacted women's rights over their own bodies in the form of abortion bans in many Western countries. Some of the federal states of the USA are the recent additions to this.
Even in the face of Climate Change, like the Water crisis, women bear a disproportionate burden as they need to walk miles to collect water for their households. Thus, the climate issue needs to be focused as women women-centric issue to analyse its gender impact.
It is therefore important to understand Feminism as not just a women's problem, but rather something that impacts society at large.
